brussels sprouts

Brussels Sprouts?
A strange name, yes. And no, we aren't particularly fond of them. Brussels Sprouts is a sort of mutt—part work, part hobby. How the name came about, well, it's not very exciting. Once when Brian was a young boy year his grandfather had a bumper crop of Brussels sprouts. Grandpa Peterson had to do something with them, so he gave Brian's mom a freezer full of them. And she didn't let them go to waste, let us assure you. They had Brussels sprouts with everything: hamburgers, lasagna, tacos, you name it. The thing was, only Brian's mom really liked the damn things. That summer lead Brian to absolutely hate them. Several years later Brian started making 'zines about bmx and music. He did a few issues with some friends, but then started a new one and thought Brussels Sprouts would be a fitting name for the 'zine. So it stuck. It also happened to be one of the few remaining available domains. Who is Brussels Sprouts, you ask? Well...

Riley, President/Company Mascot
He rules our house, anyway. While he can't actually use a keyboard, his presence is everywhere.

Tricia, Designer
Currently a designer for Communication Arts magazine and its Web sites, she also takes on the occasional freelance project. Recently, she has turned some of her hobbies—sewing, bookmaking, printmaking, etc, etc—into a bit of a business with her friend Rebecca (designer and founder of Ruby Bags). Hobbies that are still hobbies include horseback riding, hiking and cooking. Of course most of this is on hold while she recovers from a recent horseback riding accident where 2 bones in her pinky on her left hand were broken, or rather shattered, leaving her left hand in traction and 2 pins. She currently enjoys counting down the days until the traction comes off.

Brian, Engineer/Cyclist/Garage Designer
Brian has made a career out of studying how and why things break (otherwise known as fracture physics). When he's not breaking things, he's usually cycling or planning his training program. Brian began competitive cycling in the summer of 2002, has recently joined the Alto Velo team, and is gearing up for a full race season. Among his current projects, he has the challenge of fitting 6 bikes, a car, and lots of other stuff in the garage at our new place.
